In :DriveSmart we are constantly surprised. When we believe that laws can´t be crazier, our American friends surprise us. Want to know what are the most absurd driving laws? And, what’s more amazing … they are still in force! Take a look…
Smart ladies at the wheel you are not going to like these laws: in Tennessee you can´t drive. Well, you can, just as long as a man (not a woman) runs or walks in front of you, waving a red flag to warn other drivers and pedestrians that you´re getting close. In Waynesboro, Virginia, you can´t drive through the main streets. In this case, they don´t say anything about needing someone running and waving a flag. Maybe we need to launch pro-gender equality campaign.
In Missouri it’s illegal to carry in a car a bear out of its cage. We are very into taking our dogs and cats with us always well placed in their carriers, and the truth is that we´ve never thought of doing the same with a beautiful bear…
Those with criminal intentions in Washington need to be cautious. Before entering the city in which they will carry out their misdeeds they have to call the police chief and alert him that they´re going to do something bad. How nice are the thieves in D.C.!
Bad news for self-driving cars: In California a car can´t go faster than 100 km/h without someone at the wheel. In any case, you can use a self-driving car at 95 km/h, and then everything is ok.
In Massachusetts we can´t drive if we have a gorilla in the car. Relax, they mean a real one, not the tacky teddy bear that some carry in the back of their car. Yes, we know it was a gift, but it is still tacky…
That said, let’s be fair: what about Europe? There are some interesting laws too…
In Greece no one can drive unless their car is sparkly clean and the driver is wearing the right clothes. The truth is that this absurd measure is not so bad; we wish it were mandatory in Spain for riding public buses or the metro…
Watch out if you go to Cyprus: you can´t drive if you drink any type of liquid. We already discussed in a previous article what happens in Spain as whether drinking and driving is prohibited, so be careful.
What do you think of these laws? Which ones do you think we need to ask the Department of Motor Vehicles to enforce? Be careful, they might find out about that bear you have at home… Of course, what is unforgivable is to forget your Smartphone at home, since you won´t be able to use the latest App for Android and iOS drivers. Without it, driving loses it´s magic…
